1. Scope
This policy explains how the ChatShelf browser extension and the ChatShelf website handle data. ChatShelf is an independent extension for organizing and exporting ChatGPT chats and is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI.
2. Data handled by the extension
Chat metadata
To show dates, group chats and identify the selected conversation, ChatShelf may process chat titles, conversation identifiers, creation and update timestamps, and project identifiers when available. This processing occurs in your browser.
Conversation content
When you explicitly choose the AI export feature, ChatShelf processes the selected conversation in your browser to create a structured Markdown file. The export may include user messages, assistant answers, visible reasoning summaries, visible tool-stage information, sources and attachment references that are available in the conversation data.
Authentication information
ChatShelf may transiently use authentication information already present in your active ChatGPT session to make same-origin requests to ChatGPT that are required for the extension's features. Authentication information is not written to ChatShelf local storage, is not included in exported files, and is not sent to the developer.
Local labels
Text labels, color labels and related extension preferences are stored locally using Chrome storage on your device. They remain until you remove them, clear extension data, or uninstall the extension.
3. Data sent to the developer
ChatShelf does not operate a backend service that receives or stores your chat titles, conversation content, labels, authentication data, or AI-export files. The developer does not receive these data through the extension.
4. Third parties used by the extension
The extension communicates with ChatGPT/OpenAI only as needed to provide the user-facing functions described above, using the user's existing ChatGPT session. ChatGPT and OpenAI services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
5. Website hosting and analytics
The ChatShelf website may be delivered through Cloudflare infrastructure. Standard web requests may expose technical information such as IP address, browser headers and requested URLs to the hosting/CDN provider as part of normal web delivery and security operations.
If Google Analytics is enabled on the website, it is loaded only after you choose “Accept analytics” in the cookie banner. Analytics is used only to understand aggregate website usage. Extension chat data is not sent to website analytics. See the Cookie Policy for details.
6. Data sharing and sale
The developer does not sell user data. The developer does not share extension chat data with advertisers, data brokers, or unrelated third parties.
7. Retention
The extension does not retain chat data on a developer server. Local labels remain in Chrome local storage until removed by the user or cleared with the extension data. Website analytics retention, when analytics is enabled and accepted, is governed by the configured analytics service.
8. Security
ChatShelf limits extension access to the ChatGPT domains declared in the extension package and requests only the Chrome permissions needed for its user-facing features. Authentication information is kept transient and is not intentionally persisted by ChatShelf.
9. Your choices
You can remove local labels from the extension interface, clear extension storage from Chrome, uninstall the extension, reject website analytics cookies, or clear browser cookies at any time.
